Fred Kempe is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Atlantic Council. Under his leadership since 2007, the Council has achieved historic, industry-leading growth in size and influence, expanding its work through regional centers spanning the globe and through centers focused on topics ranging from international security and energy to global trade and next generation leadership. Before joining the Council, Kempe was a prize-winning editor and reporter at the Wall Street Journal for more than twenty-five years. In New York, he served as assistant managing editor, International, and columnist. Prior to that, he was the longest-serving editor and associate publisher ever of the Wall Street Journal Europe, running the global Wall Street Journal’s editorial operations in Europe and the Middle East. He is the author of four books. The most recent, Berlin 1961: Kennedy, Khrushchev, and the Most Dangerous Place on Earth, was a New York Times Best Seller and a National Best Seller. Kempe is a graduate of the University of Utah and has a master’s degree from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism, where he was a member of the International Fellows program in the School of International Affairs.

Damon Wilson is Executive Vice President of the Atlantic Council, serving as both a thought leader and manager with responsibility for strategy and strategic initiatives, program development and integration, and institutional development and organizational effectiveness. His work is committed to advancing a Europe whole, free, and at peace to include Europe’s East, the Western Balkans, and the Black Sea region; to strengthening the NATO Alliance; and to fostering a transatlantic partnership capable of tackling global challenges and promoting its common values. His areas of expertise include NATO, transatlantic relations, Central and Eastern Europe, and national security issues.

Frances G. Burwell is Vice President, European Union and Special Initiatives, at the Atlantic Council. She has served as Director of the Council’s Program on Transatlantic Relations, and as Interim Director of the Global Business and Economics Program. Prior to joining the Council, Dr. Burwell was Executive Director of the Center for International and Security Studies at the University of Maryland and also served as Founding Executive Director of Women In International Security, She has a doctorate from the University of Maryland, an MPhil from Oxford University, and a BA from Mount Holyoke College.

Andrea Montanino is the Director of the Global Business and Economics Program at the Atlantic Council. He leads the Council’s work on global trade, growth, and finance. Montanino graduated summa cum laude in economics from the University of Rome, La Sapienza, in 1992. He holds a MSc in labor economics from the London School of Economics and a PhD in economics from the University of Rome, La Sapienza.

Richard L. Morningstar is the Founding Director and Chairman of the Global Energy Center at the Atlantic Council. He served as the US Ambassador to the Republic of Azerbaijan from July 2012 to August 2014. Prior to his appointment, since April 2009, he was the Secretary of State’s Special Envoy for Eurasian Energy. Prior to that, Morningstar lectured at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard and Stanford Law School.

Daniel P. Vajdich is President of Yorktown Solutions, which provides a broad range of bespoke consulting services to institutional investors with global portfolios. He was previously Deputy Foreign Policy Director to the presidential campaign of Governor Scott Walker. Before that Daniel worked on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee where he was in charge of Europe and Eurasia regional issues.

Future Europe Initiative

Jeffrey Gedmin is a Nonresident Senior Fellow for the Future Europe Initiative at the Atlantic Council. He is also a Senior Fellow at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and a Senior Adviser at Blue Star Strategies. From 2011 to 2014, Gedmin was President and CEO of the London-based Legatum Institute. Prior to joining the Legatum Institute in early 2011, Gedmin served for four years as President and CEO of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) headquartered in Prague.

Nicholas Dungan is a Nonresident Senior Fellow in the Atlantic Council’s Program on Transatlantic Relations. His particular focus is France. He is a Member of the Board of Directors of the Chatham House Foundation, the US arm of the Royal Institute of International Affairs at Chatham House in London, and a former Associate Fellow of Chatham House.

Jeff Lightfoot is a nonresident senior fellow with the Atlantic Council’s Brent Scowcroft Center on International Security. He specializes in transatlantic security, European politics, France, and Middle East security. Lightfoot is a senior associate at the Jones Group International, an international business advisory firm founded by General James L. Jones specializing in trade promotion, market access, and strategic leadership.
