On January 31, the Atlantic Council’s Brent Scowcroft Center on International Security hosted a Cross-Strait Seminar Series public event featuring Leland Miller, president of The China Beige Book International, Albert Keidel, a nonresident senior fellow with the Brent Scowcroft Center on International Security, and Robert Goldberg, a principal with the Scowcroft Group. Mario Mancuso, a partner a Fried Frank, moderated the discussion.

Leland Miller provided an in-depth description of the China Beige Book’s data for 2012, which breaks down the quarterly report’s analysis of China’s economy on regional and sectoral levels. Albert Keidel commented on the cyclical movements of China’s economy, and discussed varying perceptions on the structure and future of China’s economy. Following these presentations, Robert Goldberg addressed the macroeconomic issues facing Chinese leadership, like urbanization and social welfare, and the broader implications for foreign policy.
