Completing Europe: Moldova’s Path

Completing Europe: Moldova

On March 19, the Atlantic Council’s Dinu Patriciu Eurasia Center and Transatlantic Relations Program hosted a conversation with His Excellency Iurie Leanca, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova, as part of the Council’s Completing Europe Series.

Frederick Kempe, president and CEO of the Atlantic Council, opened the session with a brief welcome and introduction, followed by Minister Leanca’s opening remarks and a discussion with the Minister and David Kramer, president of Freedom House. Damon Wilson, Atlantic Council executive vice president, moderated the discussion.

Minister Leanca and David Kramer discussed the Moldovan government’s strategies for implementing democratic and economic reforms and the government’s foreign policy priorities, which are based on drawing closer to Europe, the United States, and Trans-Atlantic institutions. They also commented on the prospects of the United States granting permanent normal trade relations to Moldova and graduating Moldova from the Jackson-Vanik amendment.
