Mara Karlin, New Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Strategy and Force Development, Comes to the Council to Talk About Strategy

The Atlantic Council’s Brent Scowcroft Center on International Security hosted a Transition Seminar for Dr. Mara Karlin, the new Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Strategy and Force Development, on Friday, March 6. The seminar saw a varied panel of experts gathered to offer advice and to hear from Dr. Karlin as she transitions into her new role.

After outlining her vision and priorities for her coming months in office, Dr. Karlin fielded questions and noted advice from the congregated experts. The discussion ranged from a modernizing strategic thinking, to the importance of fiscal efficiency, to how to engage NATO and Middle East allies and partners during this tumultuous period.

The purpose of our transition seminars is to offer incoming officials the opportunity to share ideas and to hear from prominent figures in their field. As well as opening a dialogue, this series aims to promote productive and efficient transitions for newly elected office bearers. For this event, participants included military, government, industry, and Atlantic Council representatives.
