On Friday, March 20, 2018, the Atlantic Council’s Global Business and Economics Program hosted a lunch discussion with Mr. Vazil Hudák, Vice-President of the European Investment Bank (EIB). The discussion centered on investment in ‘Smart Cities’. The private event was part of the Global Business and Economics Program’s EuroGrowth Initiative.

Ambassador C. Boyden Gray opened the discussion with introductory remarks, noting the important work of the EIB, which spurs innovation and technological change not only in Europe but elsewhere as well. The discussion was then moderated by Ms. Barbara Matthews, Nonresident Senior Fellow with the Global Business and Economics Program. Mr. Hudák and the group of experts discussed best practices in Europe and the United States relating to investment in smart cities. They touched upon best strategies to streamline investments, align incentives for stakeholders and selecting opportunities.
