On Tuesday, April 9, the Atlantic Council’s Strategic Foresight initiative (SFI), of the Brent Scowcroft Center on International Security, hosted a roundtable discussion with Dr. Otaviano Canuto, vice president and head of the poverty reduction and economic management network, World Bank, Mr. Holger Dalkmann, director of EMBARQ, the World Resource Institute for sustainable transport, Mr. Rafael Acevedo Daunas, transport lead specialist, transport division, Inter-American Development Bank, Mr. Cornie Huizenga, joint convener, Partnership on Sustainable Low Carbon Transport, Mr. Marc H. Juhel, sector manager, transport division, energy, transport, and water department, sustainable development, World Bank, and Ms. Polly Trottenberg, US under secretary of transportation for policy.

The discussion was moderated by Mr. Michael Replogle, founder and managing director for policy, Institute for Transportation and Development Policy. This workshop explored scalable low-carbon urban transport solutions. Panelists discussed solutions in the areas of institutional capacity and governance, infrastructure financing, and public policy. They emphasized the need to incorporate urban sustainability objectives into the post-2015 UN Millennium Development Goals renewal process.
