The healthcare industry was named the single most attacked industry in 2016 by IBM’s Cyber Security Intelligence Index. The use of legacy equipment and hyper-connectivity with little attention to cybersecurity has emerged as a threat to patient care. Health records have been breached, security vulnerabilities have emerged in various devices and hospitals have been shut down by ransomware attacks in the US and UK. Recognizing the real risk of cybersecurity failure in healthcare, the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act of 2015 tasked the Department of Health and Human Services with the creation of a Health Care Industry Cybersecurity Task Force. The task force recently concluded its work, and the Atlantic Council’s public panel discussion brings together some of the members to discuss the report’s key findings.

Join us for a lively discussion examining the threats facing our nation’s healthcare sector, factors driving the vulnerabilities epidemic and hyper-connectivity and ways to improve the current state of affairs. A reception will follow the event.
