The Financial Times quotes Rafik Hariri Center Nonresident Fellow Ramzy Mardini on the campaign led by Iraqi Prime Minister Haider el-Abadi to stamp out corruption in the country:

“Purges were inevitable,” said Ramzy Mardini, a fellow at the Middle East centre of the Atlantic Council, a Washington think-tank. “The idea that a new prime minister is going to be able to trust a security infrastructure put in by his predecessor is not going to stand. Loyalty is the name of the game.”
