Caribbean nations would be wise to start seeking alternative sources of energy from Venezuela, according to a July 16 policy report from the Atlantic Council, a think tank in Washington.

Amid stagnant oil production at state-run Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA), which is suffering from a high incidence of workplace accidents and rising debt obligations to China, pressure is rising for the Socialist government to rethink its Petrocaribe program, which provides cheap oil to Caribbean nations in exchange for political loyalty.
