The Wall Street Journal highlights the recently released report, Overcome by cyber risks? Economic benefits and costs of alternate cyber futures, on the trade-off between security and functionality in technology, jointly published by the Atlantic Council’s Brent Scowcroft Center on International Security and the Zurich Insurance Group:

With technology, there is typically a trade-off between security and functionality. That has grown more apparent as the scale of cyber-breaches increases.

But what does that trade-off look like on a global economic basis? Zurich Insurance Group and international affairs think tank the Atlantic Council modeled the economic benefits of the Internet and related information and communications technologies while also looking at costs such as cybersecurity spending and losses from cyber incidents.
