Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center Expands Exceptional Team; Hires Ambassador-in-Residence and Deputy Director

WASHINGTON ― The Atlantic Council’s Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center welcomes Ambassador-in-Residence Capricia Penavic Marshall and Deputy Director Jason Marczak.

Ambassador Marshall joins the Atlantic Council after a distinguished career in diplomacy and public service, most recently as the chief of protocol for the US Department of State. At the Arsht Center, Ambassador Marshall will bring her strong political, business, and diplomatic knowledge to bear. She will be particularly interested in studying how Hispanic Americans can influence US policy towards Latin America.

In her previous capacity as chief of protocol, Ambassador Marshall redefined diplomacy—reinventing modern protocol, building relationships between industry leaders in the United States and economies worldwide, and creating tactics to transform global engagement. Read her full bio.

Incoming Deputy Director Marczak brings extensive experience in working with the hemisphere’s public and private sectors, civil society, and academia to advance new thinking on how to address pressing political and socioeconomic issues. He will help set the strategic direction of the Arsht Center and establish it as a thought leader in the trilateral relationship.

Mr. Marczak was previously director of policy at Americas Society and Council of the Americas (AS/COA) in New York City. He was cofounder and senior editor of Americas Quarterly—the only policy magazine focusing on economic, political, finance, and social developments in the Western Hemisphere. Prior to joining AS/COA in 2006, Mr. Marczak was a program officer and founding member of Partners of the Americas’ Center for Civil Society, where he managed efforts to ensure civil society participation in multilateral processes in the Western Hemisphere, including the Summits of the Americas. Read his full bio.

“I am pleased to welcome both of these talented individuals to the Latin America Center team,” said Center Director Peter Schechter. “The Atlantic Council’s Latin America Center must become a strong advocate for Latin America’s unique strengths as a full western partner. Capricia and Jason bring unique skills and networks to quickly position the Center as a new voice for Latin America.”

The Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center highlights Latin America as Europe and North America’s strategic and economic partner by engaging on issues that include: trade and investment, natural resources and energy, strengthening civil society, the role of urbanization and cities, migration and citizen security, and developing human capital and entrepreneurship.

It is the tenth Atlantic Council program, working in conjunction with the Council’s other regional centers and functional programs to advance the organization’s mission of renewing the transatlantic community for today’s global challenges.
