Middle East Strategy Task Force (MEST) Co-Chairs Madeleine K. Albright and Stephen J. Hadley visited Egypt on February 13 and 14 to hear from a range of societal voices, including economic innovators, intellectuals, and private citizens. They also consulted with government officials, including President Abdelfattah el-Sisi and members of parliament. Discussions centered on how Egypt, the United States, and international partners can cooperate in addressing the economic, security, and political challenges facing the Middle East.
MEST is a bipartisan Atlantic Council initiative to try to better understand the underlying dynamics behind the current crises in the region and develop a long-term strategy for supporting the people of the Middle East in building a stable, prosperous order based on legitimate, well-governed states. To accomplish this, MEST emphasizes collaboration with international partners and experts—especially those in the Middle East.
