WASHINGTON, DC – The Atlantic Council announced today that Joshua Corman will lead the Cyber Statecraft Initiative of the Brent Scowcroft Center on International Security as its new Director. Joshua Corman is a world renowned security researcher and leading cyber security strategist.
“We are so excited that Joshua is joining the Atlantic Council team,” said Atlantic Council Vice President, Arnold Kanter Chair, and Brent Scowcroft Center on International Security Director Barry Pavel. “His strategic insight will be critical in crafting the Initiative’s work on ever increasing threats in the cybersecurity field and the many risks and opportunities attendant to the exponential growth of cyber connectivity. Joshua will be instrumental in carving out new areas of focus and cooperation for the Initiative.”
Joshua joins the Atlantic Council after a two-year tenure as Chief Technology Officer at Sonatype. Previously, Corman served as the Director of Security Intelligence for Akamai Technologies, and in research and strategy roles for The 451 Group and IBM Internet Security Systems. A respected innovator, he co-founded Rugged Software and “I Am The Cavalry” to encourage new security approaches in response to the world’s increasing dependence on digital infrastructure. Corman’s unique approach to security in the context of human impact has helped position him as one of the most trusted names in cyber security. He is also an adjunct faculty for Carnegie Mellon’s Heinz College. Corman received his bachelor’s degree in philosophy from the University of New Hampshire.

The Cyber Statecraft Initiative was founded in 2011, and has served as the Atlantic Council’s focal point for work on international cooperation, competition, and conflict in cyberspace. In addition to these important issues, the Initiative also will emphasize the Internet of Things and the cyber safety of devices, and seek to build new bridges to the technical community.
Corman will be joined at the Cyber Statecraft Initiative by Beau Woods, who will serve as Deputy Director of the Initiative.
