The Atlantic Council today named John S. Haederle, a senior director at the Pew Charitable Trusts, as its first Executive Vice President for Finance and Operations, a move that strengthens the Council’s top executive team at a time of historic growth in its size and influence.

“Haederle is one of  Washington’s most respected and experienced non-profit professionals,” said Atlantic Council President and  CEO Frederick Kempe. “He has all the leadership skills and entrepreneurial spirit to help us take the Council to the next level,” following ten-fold revenue growth over the past eight years, with expanded work among its ten programs and centers addressing issues in all regions of the world.

Haederle will provide strategic leadership and oversight of day-to-day operations alongside the two other members of the Atlantic Council’s top executive team, Damon Wilson, who serves as Executive Vice President for Programs and Strategy; and Paige Ennis, who was recently promoted to serve as Executive Vice President, External Relations.

“I’m delighted to join the Atlantic Council at this important stage in its evolution as one of Washington’s most dynamic and significant international affairs institutions,” Haederle said. “The Council’s mission of working more effectively together with our global allies and friends has seldom been so crucial.”

Most recently, Haederle has served as Senior Director of Operations at the Pew Environment Group at the Pew Charitable Trusts where he oversaw a 265-person group and global operating units in Brussels, London, Paris, Australia, New Zealand and French Overseas Territories.

He has also worked as Director of Business Development Operations at International Relief and Development, which at the time had 5,000 employees in 35 countries and revenues of $700 million. He previously held roles with Development Guild/DDI in Boston and the US Environmental Protection Agency. He was cofounder and Chief Financial Officer of the BHC Consulting Group and helped to found Citizens International, a business venture of the Boston-based Citizens Energy Corporation.
