WASHINGTON, DC – The Atlantic Council today announced that Adwoa Jones, Director of Human Resources for the Atlantic Council, has been promoted to serve in a newly created position as the Atlantic Council’s first Chief Talent Officer, raising the bar in how the Council fosters, attracts, and develops top talent.
In this new position, Jones will take HR issues from the back office to the center of the Atlantic Council’s strategy. As Chief Talent Officer, she will continue to oversee all HR functions, will collaborate with the Council’s development team to support their talent goals, will lead executive-level searches, and will develop a plan to invest in the Council’s talent with a greater focus on professional development.
“The Atlantic Council’s success begins in attracting and retaining the smartest, most creative, and dedicated group of individuals committed to improving the state of the world,” said Atlantic Council President and CEO Frederick Kempe. “Adwoa is a gifted leader who is well-equipped for this challenge, given her international background, her education, and her rich experience from fifteen years working in the private and non-profit worlds. I, like so many others at the Atlantic Council, have come to rely on her judgment, her counsel, and her engaging, calm, results-oriented approach to the most demanding of issues.”

Jones brings fifteen years’ experience in human resource management in the private and nonprofit sector, with a successful track record in helping organizations support their most important assets. A native of Ghana, she earned her Honors Bachelor of Commerce degree from McMaster University in Canada and her MBA from the University of Western Ontario’s Ivey School of Business, graduating valedictorian from the Spring Class of 2009.
Jones joined the Council as its first Director of Human Resources in 2012, building her department from scratch as a trusted partner both of staff and top management. Her expertise in coaching senior executives and staff at all levels from the beginning went beyond the technical aspects of the job, which she also executed admirably. In the last three years, she has developed and implemented HR strategies and programs in recruitment, performance management, compensation, benefits and administration, HR compliance, and employee relations, creating processes and management structures to support the Council’s entrepreneurial culture.
This hire further strengthens the Atlantic Council’s top executive team and follows an announcement earlier this week that David Ensor will join the Council as Executive Vice President for External Relations. Ensor, formerly the head of Voice of America, is also an award-winning journalist who worked for CNN, ABC News, and NPR throughout his thirty-year career as a journalist.
