USA Today quotes Dinu Patriciu Eurasia Center Associate Director Alina Polyakova on Russia and Europe’s extremist parties finding a common cause:

Alina Polyakova, an Analyst at the Atlantic Council think tank in Washington, says Russia is using far-right parties to make it harder for Europe to form a united policy front toward Russia on issues such as sanctions.

“For the Kremlin, anything that would destabilize the European Union … would help it pursue its policies in the European neighborhood,” Polyakova said.

“It’s ironic that anti-EU nationalist parties are using EU institutions, particularly the EU parliament, to push through their agenda, which by definition is against the very institutions in which they so actively participate and find support,” the Atlantic Council’s Polyakova said.
