The South Asia Center’s Water Conflict in South Asia project announces the release of its first issue brief, “Water Insecurity: A Threat for Pakistan and India,” by Dr. Shahid Ahmad, chief scientist at the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council.

The brief provides an overview of water security issues in Pakistan, the impact of the Indus Water Treaty on India-Pakistan relations, and provides recommendations on internal water management in Pakistan. The report also highlights how Pakistan and India can work together to address domestic water shortages in each country.

With more than thirty-eight years of experience, Dr. Ahmad played a key role in establhmmishing the Water Resources Research Institute at the National Agricultural Research centre in Islamabad, and has led major research projects in areas of water for agriculture in Pakistan and water policy, water development, and management programs in Balochistan.
