The Atlantic Council—in partnership with the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) — is pleased to invite you to attend a private workshop on the nuclear fuel cycle on Monday, March 10, from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM ET at the Atlantic Council’s new global headquarters (1400 L Street NW, 11th Floor, Washington, DC 20005).

This private event will engage the policy community in a conversation about the nuclear innovation ecosystem, including the nuclear fuel cycle and the fuel supply chain. In order to reassert global leadership in nuclear energy, the United States must deploy next generation reactors and reconstitute the domestic nuclear fuel supply chain. To realize new builds, US reactor developers will need new fuel stocks, and many designs utilize fuels that require high-assay low-enriched uranium (HALEU), which differs from the requirements of the existing fleet. A reliable, available supply of nuclear fuel, which nuclear fuel recycling could enable, will be critical to realizing advanced reactor deployment at scale.

We will explore the role nuclear fuel recycling could play within the US nuclear innovation ecosystem and spent fuel management strategy. Participants will also discuss the economic, regulatory, and policy drivers of nuclear energy technologies.

The workshop will take place following the Chatham House rule.
