The Atlantic Council’s Michael S. Ansari Africa Center, in partnership with International Republic Institute (IRI), hosted a discussion on Assessing Governance in Rwanda at IRI’s auditorium earlier today as part of the IRI Democratic Governance Speakers Series.

Following introductory remarks by IRI Vice President for policy and strategic planning Daniel W. Fisk, the chief executive officer of the Rwanda Governance Board, Anastase Shyaka, and Ansari Center Director J. Peter Pham spoke on a panel moderated by IRI Regional Director for Africa Paul Fagan. The panelists reviewed Rwanda’s governance model and the successes and challenges facing Rwanda in terms of democratic governance. During the question-and-answer period, they also discussed recent events in the region and allegations of Rwandan involvement in recent conflicts in the eastern part of the neighboring Democratic Republic of the Congo.
