On Wednesday, March 18, 2018, the Atlantic Council’s Global Business and Economics program, together with the Adrienne Arsht Latin American Center, hosted a private roundtable discussion with Dr. Tiago Couto Berriel, Deputy Governor of the Brazilian Central Bank.

Mr. Jason Marczak, Director of the Adrienne Arsht Latin American Center, opened up the discussion stressing the key juncture in which Brazil finds itself, with upcoming general elections later this year. The discussion was then moderated by Bart Oosterveld, Director of the Global Business and Economics Program.

The discussion was centered around the current state of the Brazilian economy, which has seen an improvement in recent months amongst continued downward inflation. Dr. Tiago described the challenges that the Brazilian Central Bank has faced in the last few years, and the challenges they expect to tackle in the future. Particular attention was devoted to international financial and trade issues.
