Discussion on Conflict, Security, and the Future of Mali

On Wednesday, August 6, the Atlantic Council hosted the Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister for the Republic of Mali H.E. Abdoulaye Diop, representing H.E. Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta, president of the Republic of Mali, for a high-level breakfast discussion moderated by J. Peter Pham, director of the Africa Center. The discussion focused on security challenges facing post-coup Mali and government policy responses, and Diop spoke extensively on the progress of peace negotiations and the importance of Malian unity. Other members of the Malian delegation included H.E. Mahamadou Camara, minister of digital economy, information, and communications; H.E. Moustapha Ben Barka, minister of industry and investment promotion; and H.E. Mamadou Gaussou Diarra, minister of youth, who added commentary. Participants included former and current US ambassadors, representatives of civil society, and private industry stakeholders.
