On September 25, the Atlantic Council’s Transatlantic Relations Program hosted an off-the-record lunch discussion with European Commission President José Manuel Barroso at the Metropolitan Club in New York.

President Barroso shared his insights and views on the challenges facing the European Union today, the options for moving Europe forward, and the implications for a strong US-European relationship with a small group of business and finance executives. The discussion was hosted by Atlantic Council Vice Chair Brian Henderson and moderated by Atlantic Council CEO and President Fred Kempe.

President Barroso was re-elected for his second term as President of the European Commission in September 2009, after his first mandate from 2004 to 2009. He was previously Prime Minister of Portugal from 2002 to 2004.
