On November 9, the Atlantic Council hosted an off-the-record roundtable discussion with Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Eric Rubin and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Space and Defense Policy Frank Rose. The session, entitled, “The US-Turkey Missile Defense Agreement,” focused on the strategic, political, and operational significance of the Turkish agreement to host an early warning radar as part of the Phase One of the European Phased Adaptive Approach. Atlantic Council senior fellow Ian Brzezinski moderated the discussion, in which the efforts that led to the Turkey Missile Defense Agreement’s signature were explored.
