Workshop on Extended Deterrence in Northeast Asia
The event touched upon the combination of new tools of deterrence, including nuclear weapons, conventional forces, and non-military means to mitigate tension in the Northeast Asia region. It raised discussion about the economic context for US extended deterrence, which entails the energy revolution in Asia, and dynamic economic activities of East Asian countries with China. In addition, the event also touched upon potential regional security threat and challenges, especially considering the nature of US-China relation and US interests in Asia.
This event served as the first meeting of a working group with the aim of publishing a report on the subject.
