Minister Dimitrov visited the Atlantic Council after the Macedonian parliament successfully voted to change the country’s name to the “Republic of North Macedonia” and ratified the Prespa Agreement with Greece, thus removing a key obstacle to NATO and European Union (EU) membership.

 

As Macedonia’s chief negotiator with Greece on the name change agreement, Minister Dimitrov gave insight into the future of the Prespa Agreement and shared his unique perspective on the current political situation in Macedonia, relations with Greece, and the outlook for the wider Western Balkans. Minister Dimitrov also discussed the outlook for Macedonia accession talks with NATO and the EU. Finally, Minister Dimitrov shared his views on how Macedonia can partner with the United States and the EU to address security threats and instability in the wider region.
