Kosovo After 10 Years: A Conversation with President of Kosovo Hashim Thaci

November 30, 2018 - 1:30 pm

1030 15th Street NW, 12th Floor
Washington, DC
Please join the Atlantic Council's Future Europe Initiative on Friday, November 30, 2018 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. for a discussion with President of the Republic of Kosovo, H.E. Hashim Thaçi. The event will be held at Atlantic Council Headquarters (1030 15th Street NW, 12th Floor, Washington, DC 20005).
As negotiations between Belgrade and Pristina intensify, President Thaçi has called for a comprehensive settlement with Serbia, an agreement that could include a controversial land swap provision. Opinions in Washington are split on the implications of a solution that would require a re-drawing of borders.

President Thaçi will sit down with Atlantic Council Executive Vice President Damon Wilson for an exclusive armchair conversation to publicly share his perspective on the latest developments in the dialogue with Belgrade. In light of Kosovo's recently-failed third bid to join Interpol, President Thaçi will also detail Kosovo's ongoing efforts to join key international institutions including the EU, UN, Interpol, and NATO, and what membership would mean for Kosovo and its neighbors.

While Kosovo celebrates 10 years of statehood in 2018, the country's many accomplishments have been tempered by these and other unresolved issues. As the country prepares to enter its second decade as an independent state, creative and sustainable solutions to the ethnic tensions, corruption, persistent high unemployment, and other key challenges will be essential markers for Kosovo's progress.

We hope you are able to join us for this timely conversation.
