On Tuesday, May 12, the Atlantic Council's Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center and the Global Business and Economics Program will host a discussion on sovereign debt, which has seized headlines across Europe and Latin America.

Debt restructuring is playing an ever-increasing role in the preservation of financial – and political – stability. Yet, no commonly agreed rules exist and each case seems to open the door to greater instability and spreading antagonism. From Argentina’s holdout creditors, to the Greek bailout, to the challenging political conditions in Ukraine, the questions of how to responsibly and sustainably manage sovereign debt restructuring are more pressing than ever.

Join the Atlantic Council for a lunchtime discussion with top economists and key stakeholders to ask the tough questions: What are the international community’s roles and responsibilities to facilitate agreement between creditors and the debtor? Are existing rules sufficient or do they need revision? Can an international sovereign debt restructuring architecture be created?

Please join us at the Atlantic Council headquarters for a lunchtime discussion on May 12 from 12:30 to 2:30, 1030 15th Street NW, Washington DC. – 12th floor.

This event will be open to the press, on the record.
