Abde Amr is a research assistant at the Atlantic Council’s Digital Forensic Research Lab and is based in Vancouver, Canada.
Amr previously worked at the Disinformation Project at Simon Fraser University’s School of Communication. His work focused on analyzing disinformation and misinformation discourses and media coverage on Canadian and Middle East news and social media.
Amr previously worked on research projects focused on preventing and countering violent extremism, right-wing extremism, video games, hacking, and social-justice pedagogy in education. He holds a master’s degree in global communication from Simon Fraser University. For his thesis, he analyzed anti-religious discourse online in post-Arab Spring Egypt. Previously, Amr was a fellow at Drew University’s Center on Religion, Culture, and Conflict and a fellow at the Shafik Gabr Foundation.
