Politico quotes Africa Center Deputy Director Bronwyn Bruton on the campaign to find and rescue the more than 200 Nigerian schoolgirls abducted last month by the terrorist organization Boko Haram:

“If public outrage galvanizes the United States or Nigeria to respond effectively to the kidnapping, great. It’s worthwhile,” said Bronwyn Bruton, deputy director of the Atlantic Council’s Africa Center . “But my fear is that this outrage is going to encourage [Boko Haram] to kidnap more women” since the incident has shown the group’s leader, Abubakar Shekau, a way to get western attention and to undermine the Nigerian government, based in Abuja.
