The Milwaukee Journal Sentinal quotes Brent Scowcroft Center Nonresident Senior Fellow James Hasik on Oshkosh Corp landing a military contract, worth up to $780 million, that will support hundreds of jobs:

Both trucks were used extensively in Iraq, in particular, and also in Afghanistan, said Jim Hasik, with the Atlantic Council, a nonpartisan international affairs think tank in Washington, D.C.

Over the years, Hasik said, the military has become good at knowing when a vehicle should be repaired, rebuilt, or junked and used for spare parts.

“Unlike a lot of consumers, they don’t trade in their vehicle because they’re tired of it. If it works, they keep driving it,” Hasik said.

Oshkosh has rebuilt thousands of military trucks since the Gulf War.

“I don’t know how much longer this is going to go on, but it’s clearly a nice piece of work for the company,” Hasik said.
