Healey on Managing Internet Risks
This week, more than 4,000 risk managers and insurance industry professionals are in Denver for the 2014 RIMS Annual Conference & Exhibition. They've come to better understand and protect their organizations from all kinds of risks, including risks associated with Internet security.
Concerns about cyber risk are evolving as the Internet continues to grow in size, influence and increased connectivity, but they are not new.
Twenty-five years ago, the Internet's first "worm" spread quickly — a malicious piece of software that took down 10 percent of the early Internet within hours. The disruption, which lasted a few days, was the first "near miss" of a cyber catastrophe. Others followed, such as the 2006 earthquakes that severed most Asia undersea cables.
