International Business Times quotes Africa Center Director J. Peter Pham on the recent replacement of top Nigerian military officials accused of human rights abuses:

“The United States certainly wants to partner with Nigeria, but that has been hampered in part by the fact that several key people in the chain of command have been denounced for human rights abuses, whether proven guilty or not,” said J. Peter Pham, director of the Africa Center at the Atlantic Council in Washington, D.C. “This [removal of corrupt officials] at least removes one potential stumbling block to greater US assistance in the fight against Boko Haram.”
