The Wall Street Journal quotes Africa Center Director J. Peter Pham on the June 15 suicide bombing that killed dozens in Chad’s capital of N’Djamena:
Chad, to protect its trade routes, now has several thousand soldiers deployed against Boko Haram. The country has lost some 100 soldiers and about 30 civilians to Boko Haram since it joined the war in January.
“This represents the definitive break,” said J. Peter Pham, Africa Director at the Washington-based Atlantic Council. “The gloves are off on both sides. There’s no return to the status quo. In the short term, we’re probably going to see more attacks.”
