WASHINGTON DC—The Atlantic Council and GLOBSEC announced today a strategic partnership to reiterate the US commitment to a Europe whole and free with Central Europe an integral part of it and to develop an agenda for US-Central European ties for the future.

“During times in which our democratic societies are facing unprecedented challenges, we cannot take the transatlantic relationship for granted,” said Frederick Kempe, Atlantic Council President and CEO. “Against a backdrop of global uncertainty, it is now more important than ever to unite with partners that share a common commitment to working together to shape a better future. We are therefore delighted to partner with GLOBSEC to achieve our shared purpose of galvanizing transatlantic leadership to secure a peaceful and prosperous Europe allied with the United States.”

“We are very honored to launch our strategic partnership with the Atlantic Council,” said Róbert Vass, President of GLOBSEC. “In terms of values, goals and ambitions, our organizations fit like a glove. In today’s complicated global environment, the Transatlantic think-tank community is more needed than ever and we are proud to be working hand-in-hand to help US-European ties flourish.”

The Council and GLOBSEC underscored the potential of this new partnership with last week’s conference on “The United States and Central Europe: Celebrating Europe Whole and Free, Building the Next Century Together” which convened Ministers from Central Europe, US Senators, and administration officials. The partnership aims to: diversify participation and perspectives in existing Atlantic Council and GLOBSEC programming in the United States and Europe; integrate greater US and European expertise into our research and analyses; and actively engage new audiences to foster fresh dialogue and maximize our impact.

The Atlantic Council and GLOBSEC will develop on-going bodies of work beginning with a common US-Central Europe initiative to reinvest in the special ties between the United States and the region. The new partnership will also develop a common effort to identify, expose, and explain disinformation through the joint establishment of a Digital Research Unit (DRU) by the Council’s Digital Forensic Research Lab (DFRLab) and GLOBSEC’s Strategic Communication. The DRU will be based in Bratislava, and will conduct open source research to produce public reports on cases of disinformation throughout Central Europe to better inform key stakeholders and the public.
