Energy Security Conference Brings Together CEOs, Ministers, Gov Leaders
Washington, D.C. — Romania’s president and its top political leadership, policymakers and energy ministers from a dozen countries, and senior energy executives from the U.S. and Europe will gather in Bucharest this week to discuss the issues driving economic and political developments in the Black Sea-Caspian region.
The inaugural Black Sea Energy and Economic Forum, an annual conference of the Atlantic Council’s Eurasia Energy Center, will take place from September 30 to October 2 with the support of the Romanian Ministry of Economy and Ministry of Foreign Affairs. President of Romania Traian Basescu, a keynote speaker, said, “Energy security in the Black Sea-Caspian region is at a critical point in history. By gathering so many important energy players under one roof, the Forum offers a unique opportunity to improve regional economic integration, enhance cooperation on energy projects, and reduce persistent tensions over energy supplies.”
The Forum will also feature Mircea Geoana, President of the Romanian Senate and President of the Social Democratic Party; Crin Antonescu, Vice President of the Romanian Senate and President of the National Liberal Party; Richard Morningstar, U.S. Special Envoy for Eurasian Energy; and Frederick Kempe, President and CEO of the Atlantic Council.
The conference is co-chaired by Senator Chuck Hagel, Chairman of the Atlantic Council; Dinu Patriciu, CEO of DP Holding SA and member of the Atlantic Council International Advisory Board; and Paolo Scaroni, CEO of Eni. Senator Hagel noted, “The Atlantic Council’s Black Sea Energy and Economic Forum provides a platform for regional governments and energy companies to exchange their thinking on regional energy and security interests and how they intersect.”
Founded in 1961, the Atlantic Council aims to renew the Atlantic community for 21st-century global challenges through constructive U.S.-European leadership and engagement in world affairs. The Council embodies a network of policy, academic, and business leaders who foster transatlantic ties through non-partisan and cross-national discussions and studies.
