Several days after polling stations closed on January 15, the High Elections Commission announced the results of the 2014 constitutional referendum, which took place over a period of two days. On January 18, Nabil Salib, head of the High Elections Commission announced voter turnout, and the number of votes in favor and against the constitution. 

With the number of judges supervising the vote standing at 15,560, the over all voter turnout for the referendum was announced as 38.6 percent. Voter turnout in the 2012 constitutional referendum stood at 32.9 percent, while the March 2011 constitutional referendum saw a turnout of 41 percent. 

Below are the figures as announced by the High Elections Commission:

Registered voters who participated: 20,613,677 (38.6 percent)
Valid votes: 20,366,730
Invalid votes: 246,947
Votes in favor: 19,985,389 (98.1 percent)
Votes against: 381,341 (1.9 percent)

The constitution passed by a rate of 98.1 percent, with only 1.9 percent of voters voting against the constitution. 

Cairo saw a voter turnout of 40.3 percent, with 98.5 percent voting yes and 1.5 percent voting no. The highest rate of ‘no’ votes was seen in Assiut and South Sinai, where in each governorate, 3.9 percent voted no. A complete breakdown of results by governorate can be found here. (Arabic)
