Any increase in counter-terrorism assistance to Kenya may be provided without public notification, says J. Peter Pham, an Africa expert at a Washington think tank.
The Obama administration may wish to be discreet in this regard due to lingering reluctance to associate itself closely with Kenyan leaders accused of committing crimes against humanity, Mr Pham suggested.
“Fighting Shabaab and preventing it from spreading is in the US’s national interest,” Mr Pham noted.
