The brief describes how India’s internal dynamics, such as the country's growing population as well as increasing agricultural and industrial demands, have affected India’s water supplies. It concludes with recommendations for reform in India’s domestic policy and strengthening India’s transnational initiatives on water management.

Mr. Prabhu serves as a member of the Indian Parliament from the Rajapur Constituency of Maharashtra, one of the biggest states in India. He has filled several positions in the Indian government, including industry minister, minister of environment and forests, and minister of fertilizers and chemicals. Most recently, Mr. Prabhu has served as a senior advisor to the United Nations, as a member of the World Bank parliamentary network, and was nominated as chairman of the South Asia Water Conference.
