The situation in Ukraine has already started to rock the world’s financial markets. The ruble, along with the hryvna, has suffered heavily, the Moscow stock market is troubled, and there are jitters on Wall Street. As the European Union, the United States, and the IMF scramble to put together an aid package for Ukraine, what is the likelihood that economic pressure will change Mr. Putin’s mind? What are the actual and potential economic consequences for Ukraine, for Russia, and for an already fragile global economic recovery? What is the likelihood that the European Union and the United States will be in sync on a complex and politically sensitive sanctions package?

To discuss these questions, the Atlantic Council will host a members’ conference call with Anders Aslund, senior fellow with the Peterson Institute and adjunct professor at Georgetown University and Michael Marrese, head of CEEMEA economics and strategy at JPMorgan. The discussion will be moderated by Frederick Kempe, president and CEO of the Atlantic Council.
