European UnionRicardo Baptista Leite is a 2017-2018 Millennium fellow and chief executive officer of Health AI–The Global Agency for Responsible AI in Health. He is also founder and president of the UNITE Parliamentarians Network for Global Health, which brings together more than five hundred current and former policymakers from 110 countries. He was also named an Obama Foundation Europe Leader in 2024.
A physician and global health leader, Baptista Leite chairs the board of the Global Health Policy Lab, a collaboration between Harvard University and Charité University focused on the use of generative AI in policymaking, and the Center for Global Health at NOVA University’s Information Management School in Lisbon. He serves on the United Kingdom’s National Commission on Regulation of AI in Healthcare and coordinates the Centre of Competences in Health, Biotechnology, and Health Sciences of the Portuguese Diaspora Council. Previously, he served four terms in the Portuguese parliament from 2011 to 2023 and held local government leadership positions as deputy mayor of Cascais and city councilor of Sintra. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he volunteered as a physician at his hometown hospital in Portugal and later participated in a humanitarian medical mission at the Regional Hospital of Lviv, Ukraine.
