On Monday, April 14 at 12:00 p.m. ET, the Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center will host experts for a readout of Ecuador’s presidential election results and the potential implications for hemispheric security.
For the third time in four years, Ecuadorians will head to the polls this Sunday, April 13, to elect their next president in a closely contested runoff election. The results of the first-round elections in February revealed a near tie between Luisa González and President Daniel Noboa. In addition, the elections take place following Noboa’s visit to Mar-a-Lago and the announcement of a new ambassador of Ecuador to the United States.
Amid growing concerns over organized crime and illicit trade in the region, the election results will be crucial in shaping the future of Ecuador’s security approach. A panel of experts will chart this future and discuss what lies ahead for the Western Hemisphere.
