On Thursday, November 13, at 8:30 a.m. ET/9:30 a.m. VET, the Atlantic Council’s Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center, joined by the Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security, will host a discussion examining the evolving US military engagements in the Caribbean and possible scenarios for governance and territorial control in Venezuela after Nicolás Maduro’s dictatorship.

As tensions rise in and around Venezuela, the United States has ramped up its military presence in the Caribbean, signaling a new phase in Washington’s approach to the country’s long-running crisis under Maduro’s authoritarian regime. The large-scale deployment of US naval and air assets currently underway underscores growing questions around regional instability, international drug trafficking groups, and what Venezuela will look like after Maduro.

The event will explore the United States’ evolving strategic posture in Latin America and the Caribbean and its implications for Venezuela’s democratic transition, highlighting the importance of coordinated regional engagement in the Western Hemisphere.

New policy: In-person attendees will be required to show photo ID upon arrival, and no on-site registration will be permitted. Guests will not be admitted later than twenty minutes after the event’s start time. Registration for this event will close at 5:00 p.m. ET the day prior.
