Ambassador Elizabeth Moore Aubin is a distinguished fellow with the Atlantic Council’s North Africa Program. Previously, she was the US ambassador to the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria from 2022 to 2026. In 2024, she was runner-up for the Charles E. Cobb Award for Initiative and Success in Trade Development and Commercial Diplomacy. She was a senior advisor for the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs (NEA) and the acting principal deputy assistant secretary for NEA from 2020 to 2022. Prior to that, she was the executive director of the joint Executive Office of the Bureaus of NEA and South and Central Asian Affairs (SCA), providing policy direction and guidance for the management of forty-five diplomatic posts with a $2.5 billion budget.   

In 2016, she became the deputy chief of mission in Ottawa, Canada, then served as chargé d’affaires from 2017 to 2018. From 2014 to 2016, she was the executive director for the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs (WHA). From 2011 to 2014, she served as the deputy chief of mission at the US Embassy in Algiers.   

Aubin has served in Washington, DC, as the director for human resources for the joint executive office of the bureaus of NEA and SCA, a special assistant to the under secretary for management, and as a post management officer in WHA. In addition, she served two tours on the secretary’s staff, as a watch officer and a line officer. 

Overseas, she served as the management counselor for Embassy Tel Aviv, international resource management officer for USNATO in Brussels, management officer at the Consulate General in Toronto, and as a general services officer at the Consulate General in Hong Kong. Her two entry-level tours were at Embassy Rome and at the Consulate General in Curacao.   

Aubin retired with the rank of minister counselor. In 2022, she was the recipient of a Presidential Meritorious Service Award. She earned a bachelor’s in political science from Barnard College in 1987 and speaks fluent French. She is married to Daniel J. Aubin.
