Alejandra Castro is a member of the advisory council at the Atlantic Council’s Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center. She is vice president of international affairs and sustainability strategy at Bayer, where she leads global engagement with international organizations and multilateral policy processes on sustainability, trade, regenerative agriculture, and agricultural transformation.
Castro has more than twenty-five years of experience in the life sciences sector, with expertise in sustainability policy, biodiversity governance, international trade, and legal and regulatory affairs. She represents Bayer in Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development committees and working groups focused on environmental trade measures, sustainable chemicals management, responsible business conduct, and agricultural innovation. She is also Bayer’s representative to the Biodiversity Credit Coalition at the World Economic Forum, where she supports the development of governance frameworks for nature-positive outcomes. Her background includes international trade negotiations, service as legal general counsel for multinational organizations, and senior global leadership roles in public affairs and sustainability. She currently serves on the board of the United States Council for International Business and has held leadership roles with the Costa Rican Chamber of Technology, the Costa Rican Bar Association, and the Union of Chambers and Associations of the Private Sector.
Castro holds a doctorate in constitutional and information technology law and a master’s degree in information technology from Universidad Complutense of Madrid. She is an intellectual property rights specialist trained at Michigan State University and received the Chambers and Partners General Counsel Latin America Award for Diversity and Inclusion in 2020.
