US Department of Defense Please join the Atlantic Council and the Embassy of Sweden for a public conversation with Sweden’s Minister for Defense, H.E. Peter Hultqvist; Finland’s Minister of Defense, H.E. Jussi Niinisto; and Ambassador Alexander Vershbow, former NATO Deputy Secretary General. The event will take place on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. at House of Sweden (2900 K St NW, Washington, DC 20007).

The Baltic Sea region is a key friction zone in the new European security environment with an assertive Russia using military force to alter the European security order. As part of their response to this changing security situation, Sweden and Finland have deepened their bilateral defense cooperation, along with strengthening their cooperation with both the United States and NATO.

Please join us to hear from the Ministers of Defense of Sweden and Finland about the evolving security situation in Northern Europe and their growing defense cooperation, as well as the need for a continued US role in regional security. Ambassador Alexander Vershbow, former NATO Deputy Secretary General, will provide commentary from an American perspective, and the conversation will be moderated by Christine Wormuth, former Undersecretary of Defense for Policy at the US Department of Defense.

We look forward to welcoming you for what promises to be a fascinating conversation!
