In Session 1 of this two-part event, the leaderships of the European Parliament’s Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs and the Science and Technology Assessment Panel discuss the recently-approved EU data protection package, the Privacy Shield and Umbrella agreements between the United Sates and the European Union, and the potential of big data.
In Session 2, the Atlantic Council presents its report “Building a Transatlantic Digital Marketplace: Twenty Steps Toward 2020”, which identifies measures that the United States and the EU can take to build a transatlantic marketplace, encourage trust, and preserve the Internet as a global commercial commons and a public good. The report launch will include remarks by US Deputy Secretary of Commerce Bruce Andrews and a discussion.
