Amid international condemnation and sanctions, Venezuela’s Nicolás Maduro will be sworn in for a second term this Thursday, January 10. An outcome of what is widely considered last year’s fraudulent electoral event, Maduro will likely further consolidate his power as Venezuela slides deeper into institutional and economic collapse. As Maduro continues to tighten his grasp on the Executive, Judiciary and Armed Forces, the National Assembly – the only remaining democratic institution – will witness the arrival of a renewed wave of opposition leaders committed to ending the crisis.

What is the vision of the new National Assembly leadership? How can the international community best support a return to democracy in Venezuela?

Join the Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center for an exclusive conversation with the recently sworn in new President and Second Vice President of the Venezuelan National Assembly moderated by the Financial Times’ Latin America editor. The discussion will be held in Spanish with simultaneous English translation.
