Commissioner Ylva Johansson joins the Atlantic Council for a conversation to share her perspective on the EU’s current management of the COVID-19 crisis, including the temporary restriction of non-essential travel, its possible challenges to the free movement of people and goods in the Schengen area, and cybercrime threats, including new forms of online criminal patterns emerging in the current situation. She also covers the migration situation at the Greek-Turkish border, in particular the mission of the EU border agency FRONTEX there and concerns about the status of refugee camps in the area, as well as other internal security issues in her portfolio.

Commissioner Ylva Johansson is a Swedish politician who served as Minister for Employment in the Swedish Government from 2014 to 2019. She also previously served as Minister for Schools from 1994 to 1998 and as Minister for Welfare and Elderly Healthcare from 2004 to 2006. She was nominated by President Ursula von der Leyen for the Home Affairs and Migration portfolio in 2019.
