On Monday, December 15, at 2:30 p.m. ET, the Atlantic Council’s Global China Hub will launch a report by Global China Hub Associate Director Kitsch Liao and nonresident fellows Nik Foster and Santiago Villa on China’s approach to flipping Taiwan’s diplomatic partners, and the possibility of US-Taiwan cooperation on enhancing Taiwan’s international presence.

Taiwan’s diplomatic partners play an important role as part of deterrence against China. Beijing knows this and has been actively coercing countries to derecognize Taiwan.

This event will assess how Taiwan’s diplomatic partners contribute to peace and stability in and around the island, and what the United States and its allies can do to maintain, and potentially even bolster, this critical aspect of deterrence. It marks the culmination of a year-long research project made possible through the generous support of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States (TECRO).
