On Tuesday, March 25 at 11:00 a.m. ET, the Atlantic Council’s Eurasia Center hosts a book talk for Putin’s Revenge: Why Russia Invaded Ukraine by Lucian Kim, journalist and senior analyst for Ukraine at the International Crisis Group.
Lucian Kim’s journalistic career spans over twenty-five years, during which time he has reported from North Korea, Afghanistan, and Moscow, spending the majority of his life studying Russia, Ukraine and the other nations that emerged from the fall of the Soviet Empire. In addition to working as business editor and as a columnist for the Moscow Times and Bloomberg in Moscow, Kim ran a blog chronicling the Moscow protest movement beginning in 2011 and spent time reporting from Sochi and Chechnya.
In his debut book, Putin’s Revenge: Why Russia Invaded Ukraine, Kim details Russia’s path to war beginning with the 2004 Orange Revolution and the 2014 Maidan uprising through to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February of 2022. Aided by Kim’s on-the-ground reporting during critical moments of Russia’s aggression in Ukraine, Putin’s Revenge places the war in the wider context of the collapse of the Soviet Union and identifies the root causes of Russia’s imperialist war.
The in-person event features a discussion with Lucian Kim, author of Putin’s Revenge: Why Russia Invaded Ukraine moderated by Natasha Bertrand, national security correspondent for CNN.
